Former Level 2 Chef Mark Freedman has landed at the spot formerly occupied by Bistro Sofia on Dolley Madison road in Greensboro. No called simply “Mark’s,” the restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, and the bar is open late.

Anna Mae Southern Bread Co., a Greensboro-based yeast roll company, has teamed with another Gate City business, the Fresh Market, to sell its line of frozen, take-and-bake rolls: original, cheddar and chive, and sweet potato and molasses.

And Greensboro hotelier and restaurateur Dennis Quaintance of Quaintance Weaver Restaurants and Hotels has been selected by the National Conference on Community and Justice of the Piedmont Triad as recipient of the 2011 Brotherhood/Sisterhood Citation. Quaintance, who with partner Mike Weaver owns Lucky 32 restaurant, the O. Henry Hotel and the Green Valley Grill, and the Proximity Hotel and Print Works Bistro, “embodies NCCJ’s mission of building a world free of bias, bigotry and racism. He shows through his work that diversity, inclusion and fairness are not only a moral imperative, but also are good for the bottom line,” said to NCCJ Executive Director Susan Feit in a press release.

Over in Winston-Salem on Wednesday, Whole Foods Market donates 5 percent of sales to the Piedmont Land Conservancy.

On Friday, Greensboro’s Fresh Market holds a cooking demo featuring chicken fajitas with zesty lime and avocado slaw between 4 and 7 p.m.

Monday is Memorial Day, and at the Grove Winery they’re celebrating with the Memorial Day Songbear MusicFest, beginning at 11 a.m., with six singer/songwriters, food from the Crazy Rib and lots of wine. Admission is free.

On Tuesday, the Cobblestone Farmers Market features soap as its weekly spotlight product, the cooking demo comes from Meridian Restaurant and music will be provided by a Carolina Jubilee.
