I know it feels like spring out there, but this dearth of food-related activity in the Triad means that we’re still in the throes of winter, regardless of the temperature.

Seriously: I got nothing this week except for the opening of the Greensboro Zaxby’s on New Garden Road earlier this week. Chicken anyone?

One more: The Vitamix Roadshow will be at Winston-Salem’s Whole Foods Market through the weekend.

But this give me room to talk about the weekend’s nig event: The Superbowl, which, according to NFL policy, I am only allowed to mention by name because this space is not for sale.

Forget who you’re rooting for. What I want to know is what you’re gonna be eating.

Lots of people like wings for the big game. I’ll be roasting mine this year on a pizza stone in my oven before soaking the in hot sauce and butter — that’s really all there is to it.

Others make chili for the championship.

Here’s a tip: Use hominy instead of beans and thank me later.

And if you’re making a big sandwich, you don’t need any advice from me. You are clearly a pro.

Also, remember that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. You would be wise to make your reservations now, before everything gets booked. Getting a seat at a restaurant on V-Day is like trying to go to mass on Christmas. For lots of folks this is the one time of year they go out to dinner, and many of them don’t realize that you have to reserve a table in advance. Real pros make several reservations and then choose at the last minute. In restaurant industry parlance, these people are known as “douchebags.”

Now it’s time to talk about the Big Eat, downtown Winston-Salem’s gustatorial festival featuring half-price signature dishes from all your favorite restaurants every Tuesday night — except for Valentine’s Day — in the district.
