It’s Leap Day, folks, accompanied this year with another lull in the Triad culinary scene. But don’t fret: Spring is just around the corner.

Meanwhile there’s news of a new eatery in downtown Winston-Salem. Spring House Restaurant, Kitchen & Bar, which will be helmed by Chef Tim Grandetti, will open in March in a restored 1920s mansion on 5th Street. According to a press release, the menu will focus on “new American cuisine with seasonally inspired menus graciously served with Southern hospitality.”

And in Greensboro, developer Marty Kotis is planning a British-style pub on Battleground Avenue. Marshall Free Pub, which will be located in the spot by the movie theater that once housed Pizzeria Uno and that crab shack, will offer authentic pub grub and a world of beers, and if he puts in the same effort that he did with the renovation of Darryl’s on High Point Road, it should be fabulous.

Applebee’s is rolling out a Weight Watchers menu — though, seriously, if you’re eating at Applebee’s, how much do you really care about what you put in your mouth?

And over at Krankies in the Camel City, they’re offering an Ethiopian tchembe — it’s not a drum, it’s a coffee described as “extremely fragrant and sweet with flavors of banana, ripe berry, and chocolate.” Stop by the shop or order some at www.

On Leap Day, Noble’s Grille holds a truffle dinner: three courses featuring the incredible fungus starting at 6:30 p.m. There may be a few seats left, or perhaps Leap Year William will grant your wish. Cal 336.777.8477 to see of they can fit you in.

On Thursday, the High Point Regional Health System holds its Queen of Hearts Breakfast at High Point Country Club at 11 a.m. featuring a wellness expo, fashion show, vending, demos and giveaways. Mary Best Brown, host of WXII’s “Girl Talk,” will emcee.

Also, Winston-Salem’s Big Eat is over.
