Superhero Dash at HPU Raises Funds for Family Service of the Piedmont
HIGH POINT, N.C., March 20, 2018 – Not all superheroes wear capes, but the ones who ran in the Superhero Dash at High Point University March 18 wore them proudly while also raising funds to support services for the victims of child abuse.
The annual 5K run/walk and 1K fun run, held on High Point University’s campus for the fifth year, is part of an ongoing campaign to raise money for Family Service of the Piedmont.
Race proceeds will go toward programs and services for child victims of abuse, including domestic violence shelters, children’s advocacy centers, individual and family counseling and in-home therapy. Co-hosted by the Guild of Family Service of High Point and HPU’s Kappa Delta sorority, the event also raises awareness for Prevent Child Abuse America.
“I’ve been a member of Kappa Delta for four years, and our Superhero 5K is the thing I look forward to the most each year,” says Katherine Dunleavy, an HPU senior and member of KD. “Seeing the kids dressed up and running around having fun is great, but more than that, we love knowing that we are helping a cause in our local community.”
“KD did a fantastic job organizing the event this year,” says Shelly Edgerly, event co-chair from Guild of Family Service of High Point. “We enjoy working with these young women who are so professional and helpful, and we are thankful for their dedication to our organization.”
