Greensboro, NC – The Greensboro Farmers Curb Market (501 Yanceyville Street) will host the 7th Annual Chili Challenge fundraiser on Saturday, January 20 from 9 am-noon.
Local chefs, farmers, and food enthusiasts will compete for the bragging rights for the best chili in the Triad. Chili varieties will include locally sourced ingredients and toppings including pasture-raised beef, pork, meat stocks, and herbs found within the market.
Seven teams are competing this year, including local restaurants, chefs, and market vendors. Patrons will sample seven (7) chili recipes from the following teams:
· Chef Johnny Carlo of Medley Foodtruck
· Chef Nelson Jackson of Natty Greene’s Brew Pub
· Smith Century Farms Angus Beef with Chef Michael Magnes
The cost a minimum $8 per plate donation, which includes a sample from each team, homemade Old Mill of Guilford grits cracker from Au Courant Health, homemade cornbread square, bottled water (while supplies last) and a ballot to vote for the best chili. Ballots will be counted and the winner announced no later than noon, or when the event is sold out. This fundraiser’s proceeds go to the market non-profit organization, which supports food security programs like SNAP, local food demonstrations, and live local music. This event kicks-off the 2018 fundraiser calendar.
The Chili Challenge invites customers to vote for their favorite chili, grab a recipe in preparation for the upcoming Super Bowl and experience the vibrant winter market. Competing chefs are sure to put a new culinary spin on this hearty winter tradition. It’s also a wonderful time to learn about and taste local, pasture raised meats that are produced within a hundred miles of the market.
Patrons will enjoy live music at the event by local singer/songwriter Jack Gorham from 9:30-11:30. Jack brings his unique style of soulful jazz and contemporary originals to Cooks Corner Café, a cozy place to enjoy chili samples, breakfast, coffee, and friends.
Greensboro Farmers Curb Market operates year round on Saturdays 7 am to 12 noon and seasonally on Wednesday 8 am to 1:00 pm beginning April 18, 2018.
