Welcome to Heartsville High, a school just like any other – except it’s located in a world where homosexuality is the norm and heterophobia is rampant. And it has its own personal cupid, Zanna, whose magic wand helps bring true love to one and all. But other than that, you’ll recognize everyone you meet, from the alpha male to the new kid trying to make friends, the gal who’s Most Likely to Succeed, and the Girls’ Intramural Mechanical Bull-Riding Team. Well, OK, almost everyone….

We meet the Heartsville High students on the first day of school, where the big man on campus chess champion has a crush on the new quarterback in town. The football star is dying to fit in, and his cool quotient rises when he’s cast as the lead in a controversial student musical about straight people in the military called Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Through the show, a young man and woman fall in love, throwing the school into massive confusion, anger, and pain. Will any of them make it to the prom unscathed?

John C. Wilson never fails to make an audience happy and was an obvious choice to star as the relentless optimist and hopeless romantic Zanna. John says, “I have truly connected with this character in his belief in the power of love and his willingness to fight for it. He believes in love so much that he is willing to sacrifice his own shot at it so that others can fall in love and be happy.” John adds, “I think the beauty of the show is its message that being true to yourself should be everyone’s ultimate goal. When you are your authentic self, that’s when you will be truly happy. Audiences will definitely connect with that because we all just want to be loved for who we are.”

Artistic Director Jamie Lawson says, “Zanna, Don’t is bittersweet and feel-good at once, and it’s almost impossible not to have a great time with this show! It is a proven blast with straight viewers and gay ones (of course)!”

The Theatre Alliance production is directed by Jamie Lawson and musically directed by Tommy Jackson. The cast stars John C. Wilson supported by newcomer Mary Upchurch and familiar TA players James Crowe, Ann Davis-Rowe, Stephen Melaga, and Seph Schonekas. The ensemble features MK Amos, Alex Boese, Jimmy Felt, Casey Kern, and Logan Welborn.
