DJ RED

DJ handle: DJ Red

What it means: I used to drive a red Gremlin on dubs. Ha, no it’s definitely because of my hair. I’ve been called “Red” all of my life.

Real name: Jamie Brewer

What I play: Everything… I’m an open-format DJ. If I think a track is dope, I will find a way to make it work.

Catch me at: In Charlotte at Phoenix, re:PUBLIC, Mez and Kazba; in Raleigh at Solas, and in Atlanta at Havana. Upcoming shows: Thursdays at Phoenix, July and August Calendars are clear for MOTM

Got in the game: In 1996.

Why I do it: I love music and happened to be at the right place at the right time.

Influences: Afrika Bambaataa, DJ Kool Herc, Z-Trip, Eric Morillio, Richard Vission, Bad Boy Bill, Myron Chinn, Daniel Pruitt and many, many more.

First pro gig: Teen Night at Skater’s Choice in Columbia, SC. Thanks to Warren Cavanaugh and Lindsay McSwain.

Studio work: A few remixes here and there, and one original production called Her Name Is Music featuring E-Lu.

Favorite technique: Live remixing with a capellas chopped up with my dicers.
