triad dj profile
DJ handle: tcpo
What it means: TCPO or bis-246 (trichlorophenyl) oxalate is the main chemical in glow sticks. It must be combined with other chemicals in order to glow. This was chosen because I believe that being a DJ is not about mixing the loudest songs, performing to big crowds, playing the “best” set times or how many friends/followers you have in social media. It’s about the alchemy of music and human emotion that results in the most beautiful glow. To create that single moment where the lines of race, status and individualism are erased, even if it’s only for a second.
Real name: Isaac Vallejo Jr.
What I play: All sub-genres of electronic dance music, although my favorite is IDM/downtempo.
Underground Inbassion/Triad Full Moon Gathering Thursday, and Nov. 24, Grimetime @ Studio 99 Nov. 6. I’ll also VJ at Return of the Bass in Greenville, SC on Saturday. Got in the game: Fall 2003
Why I do it: I’m obsessed with EDM.
Influences: Audio frequencies, poly-rhythms and the moon.
Another positive influence has been RevDok (RJ Hatten) out of Montana (soundcloud.com/ revdok).
First pro gig: It all started in the chill-out room at an Asheville Full Moon Gathering. I believe Nov ’05, it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
Studio work: Nothing as far as tcpo is concerned, but I am a recording/audio engineer and work for local artists at my studio.
Favorite technique: Matching songs in content and key; not really a mash-up but more like a seamless blend. I love it when you don’t know where one track ends and the other has started.
Signature mix: I record a new mix every full moon. You can find them at soundcloud.com/ tcpo.
Favorite albums: Two special tracks come to mind, “Heaven Scent” by John Digweed and “Infinitely Gentle Blows” by Alter Ring. But to be honest, I don’t even know the name of the song or artist half them time! So to list them here would mean that I Googled them and pretended to know what I’m talking about.
My gear: It depends on the venue/event. Sometimes is NuMark CDJs, other time is 1200MKs. Lately I’ve been experimenting with software controllers and Traktor.
I’d like to add: Mixing records is easy, staying humble is not. DJ worship has to stop. We are just messengers; music is the message. Without it we are just a bunch of nerds messing around with buttons, knobs and faders.
