triad dj profile

by Ryan Snyder

DJ handle: Marshall Jones

Why I use it: I was once told by Hotwax Harley that all the DJs I love go by their real name. Also, I always felt that what I play is me, which displays my true passion for house music.

What I play: Deep and soulful house music

Catch me at: The Knight Train (Every Tuesday at 8 p.m. EST on, every second Electrofunk Friday of the month at Artistika, RISE (every second Saturday at Talulla’s in Chapel Hill) and Sultry (every third Friday at Mosaic Lounge in Raleigh)

Upcoming shows: ElectroFunk Friday at Artistika on Friday, Kompressor in Novi Sad, Serbia on Saturday, April 21.

Got in the game: Late 1999.

Why I do it: I felt there was something powerful with house music and I knew it was also something that I wanted to be apart of. Mostly the music was unlike anything I ever felt before and I found all the genres I loved within it.

Influences: Hotwax Harley, DJ Slipstreaam, DJ Nugz, AD, Roy Davis Jr., XL, Jask, Mark Grant, Andre Harris, Jeff Craven and list goes on and on!

First pro gig: My first professional gig was Radiance at Gotham in Chapel Hill back in 2000.

Studio work: Still under construction, but soon Sound Cartel will launch our own production work.

Favorite technique: I don’t really have a favorite because they all influence the sound and the reaction of the crowd. I just love to see the reactions when I do a technique on time and the crowd screams for more.

Signature mix: I am proud of all of my mixes. I put time into them and I hope the masses enjoy them as well. They each tell a story about my life at that time. I am happy with all of them I guess.

Personal playlist: I listen to all kinds of music. From classic rock to underground hip hop, and bossa nova by Stan Getz to gospel by Mahalia Jackson. Music is a blissful thing to have in life.

Favorite albums: Oh wow! That is a question that I could not even began to answer. There have been so many artists and genres that has shaped me to who I am artistically.

My gear: Pioneer CDJ-1000, 800, 400, 200 and Pioneer DJM 800, 600, 500.

Website: |,

I’d like to add: Thank you all for the support over the years and the continued support. It means a lot to be able to share my hard work and passion with masses. Rather it is live or a DJ mix, the music is what it is all about! Much love!
