An Oversimplification of Her Beauty, Terence Nance’s first feature film, documents the relationship between the artist and a young woman, Namik Minter, as it teeters on the divide between platonic and romantic. INVISIBLE, Greensboro's experimental multimedia performance collective featuring Mark Dixon, Bart Trotman, Jodi Staley, Jonathan Henderson and secretly Fred Snider, will offer two presentations of their current production, The New Obsolete, at WAM on Friday, July 20 at 7pm and Thursday, July 26 at 6pm. nnDescribed as "an exploded view of the strange romance between humans and technology...a love/hate drama set in a landscape of contraptions," The New Obsolete offeres audiences an amalgamation of sound making inventions, like the "Selectric Piano," multi-channel video, and a vast archive of collected sounds. nnVisitors may view the "set" of The New Obsolete installed in the Museum's atrium from July 17 through July 26 during regular museum hours. A pre-performance reception take place at 6:30pm on Friday, July 20. All performances are free. nnThe New Obsolete has been produced with support of the North Carolina Arts Council and the partnering arts councils of the Central Piedmont Regional Artists Hub Program.

This exhibition revisits some of the activities that bring the most pleasure to children. The works feature children enjoying the world of make-believe, games and toys, outdoor play, and crafts. While some images depict such blithe activities as singing, playing with dolls, and attending special events with family and friends, a few “quirky” objects prevent the exhibit from being too saccharine. So, come take a look, and remember what it’s like to be a carefree kid again.

Please join usn for a panel-led conversation Handwriting: Then and Nown and the opening of the Graphology Institute inside Elsewhere, a living nmuseum set inside a former thrift store in Greensboro, NC. nnThe museum collection holds a letter from 1939 in which the thrift store’s nprevious owner, Sylvia Gray, had her handwriting analyzed using ngraphology.
