HIGH WEIRDNESS IN LOW PLACES

Take it with a grain of salt: John Cook and Hamilton Nolan’s Monday Gawker piece on Fox News chief Roger Ailes relies almost entirely on anonymous sources. As Ailes nears retirement, he appears to have transferred much of his energy into two small-town newspapers in New York’s Hudson Valley that he purchased in the past three years.. As the Daily Beast describes it, staff defection began “when Ailes confronted 27-year-old editor Joe Lindsley and two other staffers for speaking ill of him and his wife during their lunch breaks.” and realized they were being tailed by a News Corp staffer.

Things get truly weird when sources — again, anonymous — allege that Elizabeth Ailes implied that she was grooming Lindsley to replace her husband: “When Roger dies, you’re going to have some special responsibilities around here.”
