2018 Fall Arts & Entertainment Series from the High Point Arts Council
Join the High Point Arts Council this Fall at the Centennial Station Arts Center for a season full of wonderful entertainment! This season’s entertainment lineup is filled with great music and dancing events that are affordable and showcase talented artists from all across the region. Tickets for each event may be purchased in advance online at HighPointArts.org/events or at the door on the night of the event if tickets are still available. Third Thursday Concert Feat. Vaden Landers: October 18, 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Hailing from Asheville, NC, Vaden “Papa Vay” Landers is an old-time folk and blues musician known for his role with the Fly By Night Rounders (Abby the Spoon Lady & Chris Rodrigues) and for having a voice similar to a young Hank Williams. Serving as the kickoff for the Arts Council’s Third Thursday concert series, Vaden will be bringing his trio for this performance, adding upright bass and fiddle to Vaden’s guitar and vocal. Tickets are $5 and all proceeds go directly to the artists.
Centennial Station Open Mic Night: October 26, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Featuring six different local artists and bands, the Centennial Station Open Mic is one of the best opportunities to listen to and support the talented artists who call the Triad home. This event is free and open to all ages. Each performer gets twenty minutes to perform any genre as long as the lyrics are free of expletive language. Shaggin’ at the Station Feat. Special Occasion Band: November 2, 7:00-10:00 p.m.
The boardwalks of the crystal coast will be brought to the Centennial Station Arts Center for the inaugural Shaggin’ at the Station! This event will feature live beach music by Special Occasion Band, an open dance floor for shag dancing, and a cash bar with great drink specials. Tickets are $10 per person or $15 per couple.
Third Thursday featuring David Childers: November 15, 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Back by popular demand, the High Point Arts Council is excited to once again have David Childers back at the Centennial Station Arts Center. In May of 2017, Childers released his latest album Run Skeleton Run through Ramseur Records which features songs accompanied by Scott Avett and Bob Crawford of the Avett Brothers. Tickets to this event are $5 and all proceeds go directly to the artist.
An Evening with Mat Davidson (Twain): December 6, 7:00-8:30 p.m.
An all-around talented folk artist, Mat Davidson, known as Twain, has been performing all across the states for the last several years. As a previous band member of The Low Anthem and Spirit Family Reunion, Twain continues to make a name for himself having recently performed with groups like Langhorne Slim and The Felice Brothers. Performing his hauntingly beautiful folk songs, Twain’s solo performance at Centennial Station will definitely be a night to remember. Tickets are $5 and all proceeds go directly to the artist.
Third Thursday Featuring Holiday Jazz: December 20, 7:00-8:30 p.m.
The High Point Arts Council is excited to welcome back the Titus Gant Quartet to perform holiday jazz music for the December Third Thursday concert. Performing their smooth jazz originals and Christmas covers, the Titus Gant Quartet is a local favorite that keeps High Point’s historic jazz scene alive and well. Tickets are $5 and all proceeds go directly to the artists.
Denim & Diamonds NYE Party Feat. Vinyl Rewind: December 31, 7:00-10:00 p.m.
Celebrate New Year’s Eve retro style with live music by Vinyl Rewind! Performing top hits from the 1960s, Vinyl Rewind always brings the party to their shows through their lively performances and outfits that fit the era of their music. This event will also include dinner, a cash bar, and an early toast to the New Year at 10:00 p.m. Tickets for this event may be purchased in advance for $40 or on the day of the event for $50.
