Chester named editor at YES! Weekly
Veteran alt-weeklycontributor Britt Chester was named editor of YES! Weekly this week, bringing awealth of local arts and entertainment knowledge to the staff.
Chester, 29, was mostrecently a special contributor to the Winston-Salem Journal’s Relishpublication. He previously contributed for four years to Westword, the alt-weeklyin Denver, Colorado.
“I’m excited by Britt’senergy and commitment to the alt-weeekly style and look forward to what hebrings to the staff here,” said Charles Womack, founder and publisher of YES!Weekly. “His contacts andexperience in Greensboro and Winston-Salem make him a great fit for ourpaper.”
Chester said he is committedto the alt-weekly mission, and is eager to continue improving YES! Weekly as itmoves toward the end of its first decade in print.
“I believe alt-weeklynewspapers serve a very specific, crucial role by shedding light on theartistic community, small businesses, and alternative news stories,”Chester said. “YES! Weekly has a reputation of being the premier sourcefor all things music, arts, food and in-depth news stories, and I hope tomaintain that reputation through integrity and quality journalism.”
Jeff Sykes, who had served asinterim editor since February, will become news editor.
“Jeff’s done a great jobof maintaining the quality of the paper,” Womack said. “He’s lookingforward to focusing on hard news and investigative coverage in Greensboro andworking with our other staff writers to produce news, both online and for theprint publication.”
