    Jill Jackson’s Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD… Rachel Weisz is possibly the actress to portray Hedy Lamarr in a film titled Face Value. Lamarr led a most eccentric private life. She was well-known as an actress and for her beauty, but little known as a scientist. On-screen, she played such roles as Delilah in Samson and Delilah, but off-screen she helped develop a method for changing frequencies known as “frequency hopping” that became a forerunner to modern wireless communications. Most of the movie will concentrate on this part of her life, although if I remember correctly, somewhere toward the end of her life she was taken in for shoplifting. Also, there were rumors that she had a child out of wedlock. All in all, it should make for a most interesting film. John Goodman is onstage in New York with Nathan Lane in Waiting for Godot. He appeared on a recent “Late Night” show with David Letterman, and he was colossal — in the weight department! He could hardly fit into the chair. John is married to a New Orleans native, and he moved there several years ago. Natives of the Garden District often see him walking his little doggie around for the little doggie’s “needs.” That’s when he’s not onstage in New York. Aside to Kathleen G. of Hammond, La.: I wish I could answer you about Mel Gibson. Of all the actors I’ve met, interviewed and known, my path never crossed Mel’s. You already know he is a fine actor with a long list of box-office biggies for acting and directing. I can tell you he lives down near the ocean, has a lot of kids: Hannah, Edward, Christian, William, Louis, Milo and Tommy. And every now and then his mouth gets him into trouble. As to how you can get to meet him, I would suggest you find out who is his agent and take it from there. Many of you remember Ron Howard as little Opie of “The Andy Griffith Show.” Now he’s all grown up, balding and a director-producer with 19 big hits — including the latest, Angels and Demons! And what a picture that is (don’t miss it!). And yes, to Norville H. of Laguna Beach, Calif.: He is the father of Bryce Howard and also Jocelyn, Paige and Reed. Jane Fonda making the rounds of the talk shows plugging her recent book. And looking particularly beautiful after “maybe a wee bit of a tuck here and there.” And to Percy P. of Amite, La.: She’s been married to director Roger Vadim, politician Tom Hayden and millionaire Ted Turner.

    BITS ‘N’ PIECES:

The Chinese are going all out for Star Trek. The film opened in that country to great crowds and much excitement…. Aside to Helen J. of Metairie, La.: No, there is absolutely no animosity between Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien…. Once again, at this writing, the nightclub scene on Sunset Boulevard is quiet. No big noise from Paris and Lindsay….

I suppose you know by now that Sarah Jessica and Matthew Broderick are expecting twins. Interesting. Angelina has twins, Julia has twins and now Sarah…. And someone is certain to sign that adorable Shawn Johnson to a movie contract after her Olympic and “Dancing

    With the Stars” triumphs.
