ARTISTS UNITE: Arts, Inspiration, Innovation coming to The Ramkat in Downtown Winston-Salem
Winston-Salem, NC: On Thursday and Friday, June 20 & 21, ARTISTS UNITE will bring international, regional and local artists and academics together for a innovative mix of performances and conversations. Each night starting at 7pm at The Ramkat (170 West Ninth Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101) features Ghanaian-born, Brooklyn-based musician, filmmaker and writer, Blitz Bazawule aka Blitz the Ambassador. Thursday features a screening of the critically acclaimed film, The Burial of Kojo, followed by a discussion, moderated by Dr. Melva Sampson (Wake Forest Divinity School, Pink Robe Chronicles) and Dr. Kimya Dennis (Salem College), with Blitz and the audience. Friday features performances spoken word artist, LB the Poet (2019 Forsyth County Artist of the Year), R&B/Gospel musician, Alfred Clemonts, hip-hop rapper, Demi Day aka the little rapper that could, and our featured international artist Blitz the Ambassador with his musical ensemble.
Join our assembled international, regional and local artists to celebrate and investigate how the Arts will create a more equitable and abundant world for all people. The societal role of the artist is immeasurable. Please consider spending the weekend in Winston-Salem to experience the Arts in a radically different way and participate in a honest conversation commemorating the contributions of Artists of Color in our community, our country, our world and our lives. We’ll investigate how race, class, and power influences, shapes and directs our complex systems. Additionally, we seek to remember the historical significance of the 400th anniversary of the first African slaves in Virginia and the artistic contributions born from such an ignominious moment in American history coupled with recognition of Juneteenth (June 19th, 1865) and the freedom of enslaved people of color in the United States.

Blitz the Ambassador
“Known by his stage name, Blitz the Ambassador, Bazawule’s other credits include his short film Native Sun (2012), directed and produced by Nance as well as the short film Diasporadical Trilogia (2016). As a composer and musician, Bazawule has released four studio albums: “Stereotype” (2009), “Native Sun” (2011), “Afropolitan Dreams” (2014), “Diasporadical” (2015). He has performed at a number of international music festivals, sharing the stage with notable artists like The Roots, Angelique Kidjo, Sting, and Public Enemy.
Bazawule is the founder of Africa Film Society, an organization focused on the preservation of classic African cinema. He is also a Senior TED Fellow and recipient of the Vilcek Prize.”

With his solid knowledge of business start-up and expansion, Darrick has developed businesses with specific foci in real estate, international import and export, urban and corporate promotions, public relations and graphic arts, food and beverage and urban entertainment. Prior to joining One Touch, Darrick was principal partner of Creative Solutions Development Group, where he assisted small businesses with capital acquisition via boutique investment banking. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Howard University in Washington, DC and a Master of Business Administration from Fontbonne University in St. Louis, Missouri.
