Arts community partners to “Bring the Lizard to Life”
HIGH POINT, N.C.– High Point area non-profits are partnering with a local business to enhance the core city through public art. A kick starter event for “Bring the Lizard to Life” will take place on June 9 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Blue Bourbon Jacks in Uptowne. The concept is a 3D mural on the side of BBJs that depicts a blue-tailed skink with a multicolored backdrop. This mural will be a show stopper piece at one of the key intersections in the Uptowne, crossing Main Street and Lexington Avenue. The event will feature live music by Radio Revolver with Manna’s Food Truck hosted by BBJs, a popular night spot in Uptowne.
The arts community is focusing on public art to enhance the revitalization efforts in High Point. Not only is public art freely accessible, it gains social, cultural and economic value in High Point. This initiative is led by key art organizations in town such as Theatre Art Galleries, High Point Arts Council, Viva La Art Committee, as well as the Hayden Harman Foundation. This group is partnering with Brian Davis, artist at BRIANSTUDIO, to bring this concept to life.
“The mural movement is really gaining traction and organically, a mural mile trail is trickling through key destination points in High Point’s core city,” Davis said. “We are eliminating blight, enhancing businesses, and creating destination points through public art, one blank canvas at a time.”
BBJs is donating 10 percent of its sales for this kick starter initiative along with any other direct donations raised. Direct donations will be tax deductible and can be made out to High Point CVB Foundation noting “Lizard” in the memo line of personal checks. Checks can be mailed or delivered to High Point Convention & Visitors Bureau – 1634 N. Main Street Suite 102 High Point, NC, 27262.
