Bella Hearts, INC ‘Goes Purple’ This Month to Raise Awareness of Domestic Violence
To celebrate October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Bella Hearts, INC is holding a drive called A Touch of Love Clothes N Things at 12pm on Saturday October 27, 2018 at Daily Nutrition located at 603 Edwardia Dr. Suite D Greensboro NC 27409 (www.facebook.com/dailynutritiongso).
During this event, everyone is encouraged to wear purple to raise awareness of domestic violence. Items such as clothes, sanitary products, monetary donations, diapers, etc can be donated for domestic violence victims and their children. There will be giveaways throughout the event by our sponsor, online radio station Power 105.1 (https://appurl.io/j91olyj5).
On a typical day, there are more than 20,000 phone calls placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide (https://ncadv.org/statistics).
“Domestic violence hits home with me. My mother was a victim of domestic violence, which ultimately ended her life. I was only nine years old at the time. A Touch of Love Clothes N Things drive started in 2017 with just a hope to collect a few things for the women and their children who were in DV shelters at Family Services of the Piedmont. Being that I worked at one of their shelters, I saw the need. There will be a balloon release at the end of the drive in memory of my mother and to all who have lost their lives to the ugly hands of domestic violence” said Sherri Palmer, Co-Founder for Bella Hearts, INC.
Victims of domestic violence and sexual assault can seek help 24 hours a day by calling Family Service of the Piedmont at 336-273-7273 or 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) in more than 200 languages. If you are in immediate danger, please call 9-1-1. All calls are free and confidential.
There also are programs that provide direct services to victims, including counseling and emergency shelter. Information about those programs is available via North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence website https://nccadv.org/, the Family Service of the Piedmont website http://www.fspcares.org/, or the Family Justice Center website https://www.guilfordcountync.gov/our-county/family-justice-center.
