Bold Rock Hard Cider Post Mid-Year Sales Results +32%
NELLYSFORD, VA—Bold Rock Hard Cider, the nation’s largest independently owned craft cider company, reported sales to retailers are +32% through June 2018. Though there has been a resurgence in the craft cider category with big brands bringing focus with their rosé style ciders, Bold Rock’s flagship styles – Virginia Apple, Carolina Apple, and IPA – lead the brand’s steady increase in sales year after year.
“In addition to the continued growth of the core product line this year, the success of Bold Rock Rosé exceeded our expectations,” noted Sales Director, Seth Plemmons. “The execution and partnership of our wholesalers and retailers have been crucial to our success and are the key to our future.” Regional craft companies are a favorite among retailers, resulting in these brands outpacing the hard cider category.
Bold Rock is on pace to sell 75,000 barrels in 2018.
“We are pleased with our year-to-date growth as it is organic; we have not opened any new markets this year,” said Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Jeff Liebhardt. “We still have plenty of room for growth in our current footprint and will evaluate future expansion on a case-by-case basis.”
Turning six years old in June, Bold Rock continues to be a leader in innovation, and still holds true to crafting cider with “old world traditions and new world technology.” The company began as a partnership between John Washburn, with the original concept of a local cidery in Virginia, and Brian Shanks, world-renowned cider maker and New Zealand native. Opening its doors in 2012 as a small operation in a 30’ x 40’ barn, Bold Rock quickly grew to include two production facilities in Nellysford, Virginia, and Mills River, North Carolina, and a 10-state distribution footprint between Eastern Pennsylvania to Georgia, as well as Oklahoma.
Even though Bold Rock has risen to a large player in the cider category, the cidery owners have not forgotten their roots. In late 2017, Bold Rock reopened the doors of the first cider barn on the Nellysford property as their new innovation facility – the Bold Rock Barrel Barn. In this space, Master Cider Maker Brian Shanks is taking time to craft truly unique styles that are exclusive to Bold Rock tap room locations.
