HARD TIMES ON WAUGHTOWN STREET
Winston-Salem police reported an armed robbery at the Waughtown Street Dollar General Store on Sunday. According to the report, the suspect loitered in the store until the other customers exited before making his move. He then approached the clerk with a semi-automatic pistol and demanded money. An unknown amount of money was taken from the business. The following day, police reported another armed robbery nearly three miles away at the La Comercial Store, also located off Waughtown Street. The suspects in the second robbery removed an unknown amount of cash from the register and then fled on foot. Both investigations are ongoing.
SEX OFFENSE REPORTS LEAD TO ARREST
Josiah Jackson, 20, of Winston-Salem, was recently arrested on sex offense charges involving two boys, one 15-years-old and the other 9. Jackson was taken into custody after two separate calls were made, both in February, to the Winston-Salem Police Department regarding indecent liberties with minors. During the investigation, it was discovered that Jackson is related to one of the young victims.
Greensboro police reported that an assault took place at an East Florida Street residence on April 18. Officers found that Carl Gilles, 40, had sustained non-life threatening injuries as a result of his roommate attacking him with a fireplace poker. The assailant, 61-year-old Willie Johnson, was arrested and charged with assault.
BANK ROBBERY IN GREENSBORO
The Cloverdale Avenue Summit Credit Union in Greensboro was robbed on April 18. Greensboro police report that a man wearing a mask entered the bank while brandishing a handgun. The suspect demanded money and then fled the scene but was arrested shortly thereafter. The suspect was later identified as Joshua Humphrey and possessed a 9mm handgun at the time of his arrest.
