Drowning Prevention Foundation to Host Gala During Water Safety Week
KERNERSVILLE, NC — Hand in Hand Water Safety Awareness Foundation, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing drowning-related accidents in the Triad and beyond, will host “An Evening Under the Sea” charity gala on Tuesday, May 14th, 2019.
The fundraiser, part of the Foundation’s Water Safety Week events, will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden, 215 South Main Street, in Kernersville. Guests will be served dinner and drinks, have the opportunity to bid on a large selection of silent auction items including jewelry, vacation rentals, and more, and enjoy a keynote address on “The Power of Giving” by local financial literacy expert and internationally renowned speaker Ja’Net Adams.
Tickets are $75 and must be purchased in advance. Sponsors of the event include Cool Breeze 1250 Heating and Cooling, Inc., Village Family Chiropractic, and High Point Crossfit. Sponsorship opportunities are still available and begin at $250. All proceeds from the event will go toward the efforts of Hand in Hand, including providing children in the Triad with scholarships for lifesaving swim lessons and distributing valuable water safety education to thousands of families through community outreach programs.
“This is our first fundraiser of this magnitude, and we are so pleased with the Triad community’s support and involvement thus far. Our volunteers, sponsors, and in-kind donors have rallied together to create a really spectacular event and experience for attendees. We look forward to this gala becoming a much anticipated annual event!” says Hand in Hand’s executive director and local swim instructor Darlene Haskins.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), drowning is the leading cause of death among children ages one to four and the second leading cause of death among adolescents ages one to fourteen behind motor vehicle accidents. According to the North Carolina State Center for Health Statistics, over 270 deaths in our state from 2016 to present have been the result of drowning, including four known fatal incidents involving young children in the Triad just in the past nine months.
