Gothic at Midnight: An Evening of Horror & Hilarity featuring Joshua Kane Coming to the High Point Theatre, Thurs., Nov. 7
Award-winning tribute to the Masters of the Macabre delights with spine-tingling thrills and laughter
High Point, NC — In an award-winning tribute to the Masters of the Macabre, Joshua Kane draws from the works of Poe, Dickens and Bierce as he artfully takes his audience on a roller coaster ride of horror and hilarity. Fun for those not weak of heart, Gothic at Midnight: An Evening of Horror & Hilarity, Kane’s dramatic fusion of solo theatre filled with tales of revenge, madness and despair, will be performed live at the High Point Theatre, Thurs., Nov. 7, at 7:30 PM.
Kane notes his passion for the classic storytellers and literature began when as a child his grandmother would put him to bed listening to recordings of stories by Charles Laughton and Vincent Price, and radio shows like Inner Sanctum and Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds. Gothic at Midnight features Kane performing pieces by the gothic masters in solo vignettes. Then in between each of those scenes, when the lights come up, he entertains the audience with charming, amusing tales of life experiences.
Joshua Kane is a classically trained actor who has studied with Stella Adler, Bobby Lewis, the National Shakespeare Conservatory, and Marcel Marceau. A member of Actors’ Equity Association, he has toured internationally with a series of one-man shows and played limited runs at off-Broadway’s historic Lambs Theatre and the Neighborhood Playhouse.
His original solo works include the adaptation of the H.G. Wells’ immortal classic, The Time Machine, and A Force of Nature: or How I survived My Jewish American Family for the 92nd Street Y’s Oral Tradition Series. Kane has created and performed works for major museums, arts centers and festivals including the Smithsonian Museum, the Jewish Museum, the Peabody Museum at Yale, and many others. In addition, Kane’s vocal skills have been used to great effect as the narrator and voice over artist.
Since 1991 Kane has run his own theatrical production company that exclusively produces theatrical, corporate and private events that feature Joshua Kane because, like Shakespeare’s Bottom, he wants to play all the parts. His fascination with the old-time radio dramas of Orson Welles and Vincent Price inspired Kane to reinvent “Theatre of the Mind” for a new generation.
He enjoys conducting various acting workshops and, in recognition of his work with young people, the Connecticut State Commission on the Arts named Kane a Master Teaching Artist in 1994.
“We are very excited to introduce Joshua Kane,” says High Point Theatre Director David Briggs. “His Gothic at Midnight performance is sure to tickle the funny bone and change the way you view the Gothic Masters from now on.” Tickets are $20-$25, available at the box office by calling (336) 887-3001, online at www.highpointtheatre.com.
