Southern author and North Carolina native, Amy Willoughby Burle will speak about her new novel, The Lemonade Year, which tells the story of Nina who has just lost her father, her marriage is ending, and her job is in jeopardy. She has an assignment photographing 32 ways to make lemonade. What will she do with the lemons life has given her? A booksigning will follow.

This event will discuss This Chair Rocks: A Manifesto Against Ageism by Ashton Applewhite. All are welcome.

Books and Brews with Charles Frazier, author of Cold Mountain and Varina

Southern literary legend Charles Frazier, author of Cold Mountain, will visit Winston-Salem as he tours for his new novel Varina. Frazier’s fourth novel takes us back to the setting made famous in Cold Mountain, and in the terrible aftermath of the Civil War, we see one woman, forced into an unwanted marriage, fleeing for her life and for the sake of her children. The South comes alive once again for Frazier as he tackles tough national questions that are still relevant today. Foothills beer tastings and music will begin at 6 p.m., and Frazier will speak at 6:30 p.m. He will be in conversation with Sarah McCoy, author of The Mapmaker’s Children. Free.
