Greensboro Farmers Curb Market Hosts Community Stone Soup Event & Holiday Market Sat., Dec. 22
Greensboro, NC – Local chefs will prepare soups using winter ingredients and inspired by the fable, “Stone Soup.” Soups will be available for pre-order or purchase at Community Stone Soup Day on Sat., Dec. 22. The event begins at 9 am and soups will be available for purchase a sample of all or as take-away to serve to your family for the Holidays.
Stone Soup is an old folk story in which hungry strangers convince the people of a town to each share a small amount of their food in order to make a meal that everyone enjoys, and exists as a moral regarding the value of sharing. All proceeds will benefit the food security recipient programs at the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market.
- John Navarro of Reto’s Kitchen will prepare Traditional Pho, a popular Vietnamese soup
- Dani Bigger of Bigger Tables will prepare Winter Bean and Greens Soup
- Guest Chef Geoff Frankel will prepare Bone Broth with carrots, celery, onions and leeks
A 3 ounce sampling of all three soups will be available for a donation of $5 while supplies last. The locally made and sourced soups will be available to preorder and pick up in 32 ounce containers for $12. Tickets will be available for pre-sale until December 15th. The soups will be packaged for refrigeration or to be frozen.
Pre-orders can be placed at the Market Information desk on Saturdays (7-12) and Wednesdays (8-12) starting Dec. 1 and also available on Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/community-stone-soup-benefiting-food-security-tickets-52974134061.
Pete Turner of the Greensboro Public Library will read “Stone Soup” at Cook’s Kitchen at 10 am and again at 10:30 am. Live music will be provided by LW Lawrence from 8:30 am – 10:00 am and followed by Laura Jane Vincent with original music and covers.
Customers can also find special meal essentials with favorite farmers and prepared food vendors for pick up before the holiday. The Market will have fresh winter produce as well as NC seafood (oysters, clams, and crabs), roasts, hams, sausage for dressing, cakes, pies and a host of other local goodness like “ready-to-eat” deli sides, handmade jams, jellies, and sauces, perfect for stress-free holidays parties and meals. Last minute shoppers can also find unique hostess gifts, presents and stocking stuffers with local artisans, crafters, and more.

GFM operates the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market on behalf of the City of Greensboro. Location and Hours of Operation
The Greensboro Farmers Curb Market, 501 Yanceyville Street, is located at the corner of Lindsey Street and Yanceyville Street across from the War Memorial Stadium and operates year round on Saturdays 7 am to 12 pm and seasonally on Wednesday 8 am- 12 pm (April 18 – December 19). The Market is an indoor facility with free admission, WiFi, and plenty of free parking as well as an ATM on site.
