Greensboro Pride Celebrates Biggest Festival to Date
GREENSBORO, NC – Alternative Resources of the Triad (ART) and organizers of Greensboro Pride would like to thank the community for their support of the Greensboro Pride Festival Oct. 21, 2018.
“We are excited that so many people came out to celebrate the diversity of Greensboro,” says Pride Co-Chair Paul Marshall. “Greensboro Pride started out with about 400 people in what was then Festival Park. We have come a long way and continue to work to make Greensboro Pride bigger and better.”
For the first time in its 13-year history, the Greensboro Pride Festival had two stages: the Ralph Lauren Stage at the intersection of South Elm Street and McGee Street, and the North Stage at South Elm Street at East Market Street. Blue Ridge Companies, the City of Greensboro, Downtown Greensboro, Inc., and SunTrust sponsored the South Stage.
Headlining performers for the 2018 Greensboro Pride Festival include Greensboro-native and Voice Finalist Vanessa Ferguson, Greensboro rapper Ed E. Ruger who has been featured on Breaking Bad and the Boondocks, and North Carolina Drag Legend Sonja Simone. Janice Covington Allison, a long-time LGBTQ advocate, U.S. Army Veteran, former fire chief, and NASCAR Motor Sports Safety Instructor served as the headlining speaker. Fuscia Rage and Kitty Litter served as emcees on the Ralph Lauren Stage.
“Greensboro Pride is a great way for people from all backgrounds to celebrate together,” says Pride Co-Chair Kayt (Katie) Stewart. “We worked hard to put on a great event, and seeing smiling faces, people of all ages celebrating, and a sea of rainbows in downtown Greensboro made everything worthwhile.”
The Greensboro Pride Festival was postponed due to safety concerns from Hurricane Florence in September. Organizers dubbed the rescheduled event “A Rainbow After The Storm,” which gained even more meaning after Hurricane Michael earlier this month.
