Greensboro Science Center Sets New Attendance Record Ahead of Full Completion of Its Original Master Plan – Science City, USA
GREENSBORO, NC — The Greensboro Science Center (GSC) saw record-breaking attendance in 2018 by welcoming a total of 444,082 guests to its aquarium, museum, zoo, and treetop adventure park. This achievement marks the fourth consecutive year of record attendance for the GSC.
Glenn Dobrogosz, CEO of the GSC, says that seeing attendance hit a new high despite a year of record-breaking rainfall and without any major exhibits opening is reassuring. This continued growth gives GSC leaders great confidence in future success as several major new projects come to fruition, including the Revolution Ridge zoo expansion, a reinvented tiger exhibit, a new outdoor Komodo dragon exhibit, the Rotary Club of Greensboro Carousel, the SAIL (Science Advancement Through Innovative Learning) Center, and the start of the Battleground Parks District (BPD).
“AZA and AAM accredited zoos, museums and aquariums are leading tourism destinations in every single community where they are located,” says Dobrogosz. “Accredited institutions attract more visitors to communities than all professional football, baseball and basketball games combined. The Greensboro Science Center has just begun to fulfill its vision as a leading science attraction and its mission to help transform Greensboro into an even more dynamic destination.”
The GSC’s vision continues to expand as the organization is just months away from unveiling its 2020-2030 strategic plan — a plan that Dobrogosz says will dramatically expand the animal, immersive, thematic, and even artistic experiences for guests. With GSC attendance more than doubling since just five years ago, this new plan will position the organization to reach its new goal of attracting 750,000 guests annually.
Dobrogosz says, “There are a lot places people can visit and have great fun. What is so special about a place like the GSC is that you not only have fun, but every single person leaves with something new: knowledge, greater appreciation for the amazing world around them or even that special spark when a student takes one step closer to his or her passion and career path in life.”
