High Point Arts Council welcomes North Carolina’s newest Poet Laureate, Jaki Shelton Green, to the Centennial Station Arts Center May 23,
The High Point Arts Council is honored to welcome North Carolina’s newest Poet Laureate, Jaki Shelton Green, to the Centennial Station Arts Center on Thursday, May 23, at 7:00 p.m. for a special reading and poetry discussion. Admission for this event is completely free and open to all ages. Seating will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis.
A native of North Carolina, Jaki Shelton Green is a poet, teacher, arts advocate, and recently appointed Poet Laureate of the state. Ms. Green is the first African-American and third woman to serve as the Poet Laureate of North Carolina. In addition to Ms. Green’s recently received high honor, she has also been inducted into the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame and has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. As a creativity coach, Ms. Green facilitates workshops all across the
United States and abroad as well. Ms. Green also teaches Documentary Poetry at Duke University’s Center for Documentary studies. In all, Ms. Green has published eight books of poetry, co-edited two anthologies, and also written one play.
