Indiana Pacers Select High Point University Sophomore for Community Relations Internship
HIGH POINT, N.C., July 20, 2018 – High Point University sophomore Kaylee Kerr recently accepted and began a community relations summer internship with the Indiana Pacers.
During the course of her internship in Indianapolis with the Pacers, the Avon, Ohio, native is responsible for event preparation and management, donation request fulfillment, content design projects and data entry organization. She will assist with community programs such as reading events, exercise camps, basketball clinics, movie premieres, and with the in-game experience for Indiana Fever games.
Kerr, an electronic media production major with minors in photography and graphic design, has applied lessons from her time at HPU to work on a variety of projects, participate in several different events and network with people in her desired career field.
“This internship has prepared me for my future because it is helping me narrow down the career path I would like to follow,” says Kerr. “It’s helping me build connections with a lot of industry professionals.”
Kerr credits her time at High Point University and the university’s emphasis on a growth mindset with providing her with the skills she needed to land the position.
“High Point University has been fundamental in getting me to where I am today,” she says. “From the experiential learning opportunities to the long list of available resources, HPU has taught me to dream big and that I can accomplish anything if I put my mind to it.”
The Office of Career and Professional Development supported Kerr in her internship search by helping her craft a polished resume, cover letters and a LinkedIn profile.
“All of my professors have been wonderful at preparing me for real-world opportunities,” she says. “Between them and the staff I’ve worked with in Career and Professional Development, I now have excellent contacts for my future plans and am on the right path for the rest of my college journey.”
