IT’S IN THE HOLE AT SECCA: Chris Nashawaty discusses his new book about golfers’ favorite movie, Caddyshack.
Winston-Salem, NC, May 30, 2018 – The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA) welcomes Entertainment Weekly Film Critic and Author, Chris Nashawaty, for an iconic evening of conversation around his new book that explores the behind-the-scenes of golfers’ favorite movie, Caddyshack.
The June 22nd event includes a book signing and the opportunity to register early for reduced foursome fees to the 2018 SECCA Slam for Art, the world’s most artistic golf tournament that will be held in October. Gopher costumes, iconic golf pants and the uttering of famous Caddyshack lines are welcome!
In his book, Caddyshack: The Making of a Hollywood Cinderella Story, Nashawaty goes behind the scenes of the iconic film, chronicling the rise of comedy’s greatest deranged minds who formed The National Lampoon, turned the entertainment industry on its head, and ultimately blew up both a golf course, and popular culture, as we know it.
According to Steve Rushin, writer for Sports Illustrated and author of Sting-Ray Afternoons Back, “Chris Nashawaty has written a ridiculously funny book that is also tragic, sweet, profane and profoundly entertaining. It’s full of sex, drugs and gopher holes, of course. But Nashawaty also tells, through Caddyshack, the origin story of modern comedy. The result is a richly reported book as rollicking and quotable as the film it honors.”
The event at SECCA begins with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres from 5 to 6:15PM. VIP tickets allow attendees to meet Nashawaty and have their books signed. Attendees can bring their books or purchase them from Bookmarks at the event. The Author Talk runs from 6:30 to 8PM. The event is presented in cooperation with Bookmarks and the National Sports Media Association that hosts its awards weekend in Winston-Salem from June 23-25. This event is also supported by Genuity Concepts in Marketing and Excalibur Direct Marketing.
