Kaleideum Announces Appointment of Marcus Harshaw as New Vice President of Education and Facilities
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (August 8, 2018) — Today Kaleideum announced the hiring of Marcus Harshaw as the new Vice President of Education and Facilities. Harshaw will oversee the educational and exhibition initiatives at Kaleideum Downtown and Kaleideum North.
Marcus Harshaw, MA, Brings Wealth of Museum Experience in Strategic Planning, Programming, and Guest Engagement to Both Museum Campuses.
“I am honored to join Kaleideum’s talented team which will focus on ways to explore and implement ‘Learning Reimagined’ for the Winston-Salem community,” Harshaw said. “We believe in encouraging the development of thinkers who — through practice and experience — are equipped to make positive changes in themselves and their world. I am looking forward to implementing this vision while increasing community impact and relevance and broadening Kaleideum’s regional and national reputation.”
Harshaw has a Master of Arts in Museum Studies and more than 10 years of museum experience. Most recently, he worked as the Director of Education & Community engagement at the Indiana Historical Society in Indianapolis. Prior to that, he worked as the Director of Program Development & Evaluation at the Cincinnati Museum Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. He has chaired professional development and membership committees for the American Alliance of Museums and the Ohio Museums Association and regularly engages in professional speaking engagements about museum leadership.

Kaleideum was formed by the merger of The Children’s Museum of Winston-Salem and SciWorks on July 1, 2016. Kaleideum North (formerly SciWorks) was founded by the Junior League of Winston-Salem and opened its doors as the Nature Science Center in 1964. Kaleideum Downtown (formerly The Children’s Museum of Winston-Salem) was founded by the Junior League of Winston-Salem and opened its doors on November 20, 2004.
