Letter to the editor: Kathy Manning’s got my vote because she’s got our backs!
As a cancer survivor, you can bet one of my biggest concerns this 2018 midterm is continued access to affordable healthcare for all Americans with pre-existing conditions. Really, don’t we ALL have pre-existing conditions at some point in their lives? I think all Americans deserve affordable healthcare; Kathy Manning thinks so too.
As we all know, the Republicans (luckily) failed to pass their “American Health Care Act” or “Trumpcare” bill. In layman’s terms, the bill was designed to force us hardworking Americans to drop our health insurance. The bill failed, but not before being passed through the House of Representatives, with one of it’s supporters being none other than North Carolina’s Ted Budd.
I’ve listened to Ted Budd; he seems to be a nice enough, reasonable sounding guy. But truth is, he supported a bill that would have increased my premiums to the point that I’d be forced to drop my health coverage. He was willing to cut Medicaid for us lower income Americans just so rich people could get a big fat tax break! I think that’s completely unacceptable; Kathy thinks so too.
Another thing Kathy Manning and I are adamant about is that North Carolinians need a sustained investment in public education for our children, including decent salaries for our teachers. At the present, our state ranks 40th in the whole country in terms of public education and 47th in terms of teacher’s salaries. I think that’s disgraceful; Kathy thinks so too.
I’m voting for Kathy Manning because I want to elect government leaders who are compassionate, mature, accountable PUBLIC servants who actually CARE about us. I’m tired of self-serving politicians who care more about their own job security than than they do yours or mine. I believe Kathy Manning has our back. I hope, for the sake of all North Carolinians, we will allow her to work for us.
