Library Welcomes Actress Karen Ceesay for Women’s History Month
The Greensboro Public Library is hosting actress Karen Ceesay, best known for her role as Mrs. Sinclair in the Netflix series Stranger Things, Friday, March 16 as part of its Women’s History Month programming. There free event is from 7-8:30 pm at the Central Library, 219 N. Church St. Ceesay will share her thoughts and observations of what it’s like to be an African-American woman in the film industry.

Ceesay has appeared in recurring roles on television as well as in feature films. She is currently in her fourth season as Bertie, one of the Hilltop residents, on AMC’s The Walking Dead. Her movie credits include Last Vegas (2013), The Internship (2013) and Rings (2017).
Karen’s love of acting began in Philadelphia, where she performed in 10 theater productions before the age of 15. She later earned a Bachelor of Arts in theater from Spelman College in Atlanta, while minoring in mathematics. Once on the acting scene in Atlanta, Karen became a member of Whole World Theatre’s improv comedy troupe before writing and producing her own sketch and improv show, “Karen Ceesay: SUPASTAR.”
From her first “official” television role on BET’s first scripted series “Somebodies” to her most recent appearance as Veretta Henderson in the CW superhero hit Black Lightning, Karen studies and develops her art while continuing to be of service to the industry. An active member of Atlanta’s arts community, Karen has served on the Board of Women in Film and Television and is a member of Georgia Production Partnership.
