Local comic book artist/writer returns to Kickstarter with popular series
Greensboro-based comics creator Barrett Stanley returns to Kickstarter with his acclaimed sci-fi action-comedy series “Heartbreak Quadrant”
October 3, 2019 – Artist/writer Barrett Stanley has launched a Kickstarter campaign for the latest installment of his ongoing graphic novel series. This is Stanley’s third Kickstarter campaign for “Heartbreak Quadrant” and centers around the 80-page third issue. The first and second issues are also on offer, as well as other backer rewards, including a collection of Stanley’s sketches and pieces of his original artwork.
The series is known for its offbeat humor, energetic artwork, and a nearly all-female cast of characters. Popular comics and pop-culture website BleedingCool.com named “Heartbreak Quadrant,” the Best Indie Comic of 2017. “(‘Heartbreak Quadrant’ is) a perfect mixture of humor, emotion, and high sci-fi,” said BleedingCool’s Joshua Davidson. “It establishes its universe in such a succinct manner without ever overloading the reader with exposition. Ida and Kumi are two of the best characters I’ve been introduced to this year. It’s just a masterpiece of comic writing.” Stanley hopes to add to his previous Kickstarter successes with the current campaign, which will end on November 2nd.
“Heartbreak Quadrant” is the story of Ida and Kumi, a pair of scavengers who cruise the galaxy, looking for items from the long-since-destroyed Earth. Such pieces of Earthly ephemera are highly prized on the trade circuit, but being space-faring junk dealers isn’t easy – there are double-crossing clients, technological disasters, and sub-standard replicated nachos to contend with.
Barrett Stanley is a North Carolina-based artist, writer, and illustrator. In addition to “Heartbreak Quadrant,” he has produced numerous mini-comics, zines, and games, and is the illustrator of Joseph A. McCullough’s “Rangers of Shadow Deep.”
