Location Changed for Tuesday Night’s Public Hearing on Renaming Fair
The public hearing Tuesday evening to solicit suggestions for a new name for the Dixie Classic Fair has been moved to the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Education Building. City officials moved the hearing to ensure there is ample room to accommodate the potential attendance. The hearing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.
Parking will be available on the fairgrounds midway. Enter through Gate 7 at 2886 Shorefair Drive. The hearing originally was scheduled to be in the Neil Bolton Home & Garden Building.
Speakers will have one minute to provide their suggestions on a new name for the fair. Those who do not have an opportunity to speak will be able to fill out comment cards with their suggestions.
The hearing is part of an outreach effort by the Public Assembly Facilities Commission to solicit suggestions for a new name for the fair. Suggestions can also be submitted through a survey posted through June 3 at surveymonkey.com/r/DCFNameInput. Links to the survey are also posted at DCFair.com, at WSFairgrounds.com and at CityofWS.org. Also through June 3, suggestions can be called in to the city’s citizen feedback line at 336-734-1400.
The Public Assembly Facilities Commission and the Fair Planning Committee will review the suggestions and make a recommendation to the mayor and members of the City Council, who will have the final say in renaming the fair. If the council votes to change the name, it would take effect with the 2020 fair.
