Million Father March Comes to the Triad
Ground-Breaking Mentoring March targeted to bring Fathers to First Day of School!
On Mon., Aug. 28, Ashley Academy, 1647 Ashley School Circle, from 7am to 8am. Triad Mentoring Coalition (TMC), a Non-Profit, Minority Male Mentoring organization’s , 100 Men Reception Tunnel has joined forces with The Black Star Project’s Million Father March in Chicago Illinois to launch a clarion call to all fathers to answer the call to greater father presence at their son’s school. On the first day of school: fathers, relatives, men, and significant male caregivers are asked to take their children to their first day of school across the country and around the world. Fathers, grandfathers, foster fathers, stepfathers, uncles, cousins, big brothers, significant male caregivers and friends of the family participate in the event According to Dr. Williams, the event coordinator, the march is “a game changer in changing the narrative for the absentee father syndrome.” Ms. Scarlet Linville, principal of Ashley Academy, will host the march at 1647 NE Ashley School Circle, Winston Salem.
First in the Triad, TMC is humbled to introduce the national partnership. The Million Father March is a nationally recognized initiative. Since its humble beginnings in 2004, The Million Father March has grown into a national phenomenon. It coordinated the Million Father March 2015 in 581 cities nationwide (and worldwide!). “The March included the participation of over 1 million men, women and children, including between 30,000 and 40,000 in Chicago alone”, said Phillip Jackson, chairman-Board of Directors. TMC has registration forms available and asking all fathers that participate to register with TMC who will present total numbers registered to national registry.
