Randolph County will hold its Relay For Life event to support the fight for a cancer-free world Sat., May 18
As a community, we have the ability to attack cancer from every angle, by joining forces with the American Cancer Society. This year Randolph County will hold its Relay For Life event to support the fight for a cancer-free world Sat., May 18 from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
This year’s Relay For Life event will bring our community together in ways like never before! To continue to honor individuals who have fought bravely against the merciless disease of cancer, Survivors, their families and all those who have been affected by this disease will come together along with their community to create a united network of support and dedication.
The theme for 2019 is United We Relay, inspired by the new partnership with Victory Junction, which will be the host for this year’s event. This incredible venue is located at 4500 Adam’s Way in Randleman.
The Opening Ceremonies which will include the singing of the National Anthem by local artist, AB Hill at 4:00 PM will be followed by the Survivor Lap. This is an inspiring time where survivors are honored by participants in support of their incredible fight, at 4:15 PM. During the evening, a free Survivor Dinner will be held for Survivors and a guest, taking place from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Randolph County Safe Kids will be holding their Safe Kids Day during the event. This will include educational opportunities for families as well as fun activities and games for kids. Just another example of how United We Relay!
A concert will also be taking place on the main stage throughout the evening. During the 5:00 PM hour, The Cult Classics will be performing. The Burnt Biscuits will be taking the stage during the 6:00 PM hour. The headliner for this year is the Corey Hunt Band, they will be playing during the 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM hour.
This year’s Relay will also include Vendors and Food Trucks so bring your money and plan to come hungry and ready to shop! Also, a Silent Auction will be going on from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Lots more fun activities, games and partnerships are still being organized and finalized, so there will be much more to come.
One of the most memorable events during the night is the Luminaria Ceremony. This is a time where everyone has the opportunity to light glowsticks and take a moment to honor those who have beat the disease, those who are still fighting, and those who have courageously fought but have lost their lives to cancer. The glowsticks are used to light the luminary bags. Bags will be available to be purchased throughout the event and prior to the event for $10. This year, the Closing Ceremonies will be tied into the Luminary Service and taking place at 9:00 PM. The Randolph Youth Theater Company will be helping lead this memorable time of the night.
There is still time to get involved in this year’s event. As the theme states, United We Relay… and that can’t be done without community partners, sponsors, fundraising teams, volunteers and more coming together! The success of Relay For Life is the support of it’s community. It takes businesses, organizations, churches, schools, volunteers and more to all come together and be United!
