Rep. Jon Hardister Passes Animal Shelter Legislation
Raleigh, NC – On June 7 Rep. Jon Hardister (R-Guilford, Majority Whip) passed HB 1080 – Guilford County Animal Control Records – which would allow the Guilford County animal shelter to keep personal information private when an individual either adopts or surrenders an animal at the shelter.
Other primary sponsors of the legislation are Reps. John Blust (R-Guilford), Cecil Brockman (D-Guilford) and Amos Quick (D-Guilford). The legislation was requested by members of the Guilford County Board of Commissioners.
“This legislation will allow the Guilford County Animal Shelter to protect the private information of individuals who adopt or surrender an animal at the shelter,” Hardister said. “People have a reasonable expectation for privacy when they adopt or surrender an animal. This is a common sense way for the shelter to maintain their records.”
The bill passed the House unanimously on a voice vote and has been sent to the Senate.
