Rev. Greg Drumwright Declares His Run for Guilford County Board of Education, District 2 in 2018 Election
Rev. Gregory B. Drumwright announces his candidacy for the Guilford County Board of Education, District 2, in the 2018 mid-term election. Drumwright, a native of Burlington, NC, is an undergraduate alum of NC A&T State University (2001), where he served as Student Body President, and is a current student at the Wake Forest University School of Divinity where he is set to graduate in May 2018, with a Master of Divinity degree.
Greg is no stranger to educational leadership. He brings to the field five years of classroom teaching experience, as a former English and Mass Communications instructor in the Alamance-Burlington and Guilford County Schools Systems. His teaching career started at Barber-Scotia College during its period of record enrollment as the Director of Fine Arts, as well as an instructor in Greensboro Area Math & Science Academy at NC A&T State University, all before entering the public school system as an educator. As a successful classroom instructor, Drumwright was well-regarded as being an effective and a relevant mentor to students as well as an advocate for parental involvement and educational leadership initiatives.
His post educational experience reveals a person who has been dedicated to community leadership in Greensboro for over 15 years. Pastor Drumwright has organized local and state-wide outreach programs such as the NC Student Government Leadership Congress; a 3-day academic and governmental leadership initiatives that brought nearly 300 students, educators, local and national officials to the University of NC at Greensboro in 2012. Since then, Drumwright has mentored hundreds students on their journey from high school to college by his desire to meet the needs of students through efforts such as Weldon City Impact and Student Leadership Greensboro. The faith-based foundation that he leads, has awarded over $5,000 in the most recent years to students from low socio-economic backgrounds that demonstrate leadership and academic merit.
Reverend Drumwright serves as the Senior Minister at the Citadel Church & Campus Ministries, which has impacted members of the community and thousands of college students in the most recent years. As community servants, and under his leadership, the Citadel has sponsored transformational ministry in the City of Greensboro, having worked to bring young mothers from homelessness to happiness and partnering with Greensboro’s Police and City Government to sponsor programming that has lowered crime in urban communities.
Greg has enjoyed a 22-year career as a singer/songwriter musician and Gospel music performer with a national stage. In September of 2016, Rev. Drumwright was led to take his singers to the front line, on day-three, of the civil unrest that took place in the city of Charlotte, NC. For nearly 4 hours, the group performed an acapella repertoire of inspirational music that resulted in what the National Guard and news media coined as being Charlotte’s first night of peace, since protest and rioting had engulfed the city. A Google search of this report reveals that more than 100 news media outlets, including all national tv-news networks, covered the choir’s demonstration in Charlotte though Rev. Drumwright recalls that only 3 people were assembled when they began. One video from a bystander was viewed nearly 300,000 times and shared more than 1,700 times on social media as the crowd grew to more than 1,000 onlookers.
Greg Drumwright has been serving as a called upon faith leader for youth and young adult organizations, having impacted more than 200,000 persons, nationally and internationally, since he began his public speaking career in 1998. He has received numerous local, state, and national awards for his spiritual leadership, community service, and humanitarianism all before the age of 35.
As member of the school board, Rev. Drumwright will serve as an advocate for safer schools, he pledges to work to close all gaps relevant to achievement, parental engagement, and socio-economic disparities through providing transparent and honest leadership.
