Scuppernong Books hosts Bestselling Author Jason Reynolds as he Gives Back to Triad Kids
Scuppernong Books is one of two bookstores nationwide selected to host special appearances by author Jason Reynolds in April 2019. In fall 2018 we participated in #IndiesGiveBack, an American Booksellers Association initiative for which we donated a grade-wide set of Jason Reynolds’s novel Ghost (book 1 of his bestselling Track Series) to the fifth graders at Morehead Elementary. By participating in #IndiesGiveBack, we became eligible to submit a proposal for Jason Reynolds to come to Scuppernong Books for a free public event, and for him to visit a local Title 1 middle school for a free reading/signing and special book giveaway to students. Of thousands of participating bookstores across the country we were selected to host Jason in this wonderful opportunity for kids of the Triad to meet this fun, engaging author free of charge.
· International bestselling children’s/YA author Jason Reynolds will appear at a FREE open-to-the-public reading and book signing at 7pm on April 24, 2019 at Union Square Auditorium hosted by Scuppernong Books and Greensboro Bound Literary Festival
· Jason Reynolds will speak at Wiley Middle School in Winston-Salem on April 25, 2019, where he and Simon & Schuster will donate special editions of his novel Ghost to each student as a part of #IndiesGiveBack in conjunction with Scuppernong Books and Greensboro Bound Literary Festival.
The free, open-to-the-public reading will take place at Union Square Auditorium (124 East Gate City Blvd. Greensboro, NC) at 7pm on Wednesday, April 24. Seating will be filled on a first come, first served basis for as long as seats are available. Jason Reynolds’s books, including the Track Series, will be available for sale via Scuppernong Books. Jason will be signing purchased books after the event.
The Title 1 school visit to Wiley Middle School is a private event to be hosted at the Reynolds High School auditorium in Winston-Salem on the morning of Thursday April 25, where Jason will give a presentation to the 6-8 grade students, after which each student will receive a signed special edition copy of Ghost donated by Simon & Schuster. Jason Reynolds, Scuppernong Books, and Greensboro Bound Literary Festival share a passion for ensuring that all students have access to literary community and experiences regardless of means. We support wider representation in publishing, based on our belief that all kids deserve to see themselves and their experiences reflected in the books they read.
