Senator Michael Garrett Files Bill to End E-Notices Pilot Program
Raleigh, NC – Senator Michael Garrett of District 27 today introduced Senate Bill 253, which would end the pilot program that allowed local governments to publish public notices online instead of in local newspapers. The bill, titled “Restoring Fair Treatment for Journalism in Guilford County,” was jointly filed with Senators Gladys Robinson (SD-28) and Mike Woodard (SD-22).
The program began in late 2017 and affected only Guilford County
“For more than a year, Guilford County has been singled out for a ‘pilot program’ which effectively served as punishment to local newspapers for doing their jobs and reporting the news,” said Garrett. “Today, we move to end that program and restore the same law which applies to everyone else again to Guilford County.”
Senator Garrett, who was sworn-in to his first term earlier this year, represents the 27th NC Senate district, which is located entirely in Guilford County and includes all or part of Greensboro, High Point, Summerfield, Oak Ridge, Stokesdale, Pleasant Garden, Jamestown, Colfax, and surrounding communities.
