Soap star comes to Reidsville to help David take down Goliath
The Elect Wally White committee will host a Gospel Brunch Campaign Kickoff Sat., Jan. 25 from 10am – 12pm at Zion Baptist Church, 807 Piedmont St, Reidsville, NC.
White has designed a unique event to introduce himself to the voters of the 30th District of the NC Senate, where Phil Berger currently serves. Actor Paulo Benedeti will come to Reidsville to host the campaign kickoff. He and White both worked on the CBS daytime drama Guiding Light in the late 1990’s. Benedeti went on to play the role of Tony Dominguez on The Bold and the Beautiful. While still working as an actor, he is now a real estate broker in North Carolina.
White, a native of Eden, was a member of a predominantly black gospel choir at a church in Los Angeles founded by Rev. Dr. Della Reese Lett, known for her role as Tess on CBS’s Touched by an Angel. White wanted to share his love of gospel music to show his supporters an unexpected side of this Democratic candidate.
“While I am passionate about the separation of church and state, that commitment often gives a mistaken message that one party owns God. I want to clear that up with event number one,” White said.
A live band, full gospel choir, soloists, breakfast foods, a silent cake auction, and a soap star will make for a joy filled community event. White will take a few minutes to explain why he decided to take on the important task of challenging the 20-year incumbent senator, but promises “there will be a little talking and a whole lot of singing.”
