Lecture Night in Camel City: The Retreat that Won the American Revolution
Saturday, July 6 • 7:00 pm at Bookmarks
Ed Southern, Executive Director of the NC Writers’ Network, will give a free lecture about the American Revolution. During “The Race to the Dan,” the two armies raced each other across the North Carolina Piedmont in an effort that would lead to Cornwallis’s surrender at Yorktown. Though a retreat by the Continentals, the Race to the Dan would prove to be the undoing of Cornwallis’s army and the British “Southern strategy” to defeat the American rebellion.
Book Buzz Book Club

Book Buzz Book Club meets on the second Thursday of the month to discuss lesser-known titles by some of today’s favorite authors. July’s pick is The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell. In The Sparrow, humanity discovers proof of extraterrestrial life and, after a failed mission, a sole survivor lives to tell the tale.

Lecture Night in Camel City: The History of Tattoos

C.W. “Chuck” Eldridge and Harriett “The Book Mistress” Cohen will lecture about the history of tattoos. Eldridge learned the art of tattooing under the legendary D.E. Hardy and is one of the nation’s leading tattoo historians. He was recently featured on Netflix’s Explained. Chuck and Harriett own and operate Tattoo Archive, a museum, book shop, and tattoo shop in downtown Winston-Salem. Lecture Night is free and open to the public.
