Stained Glass Playhouse presents Beth Henley’s “Crimes of the Heart” in February
Directed by Steffanie Vaughan
February 7-8, 14-15, & 21-22 at 8 pm;
February 9, 16, & 23 at 3 pm
In Hazlehurst, Mississippi, the three Magrath sisters have gathered to await news of Old Granddaddy, living out his last hours in the local hospital.
Lenny (LeeAnna Lott), the oldest, never left home, and now faces diminishing marital prospects. Meg (Heather Jaynes), who couldn’t wait to leave, is back after a failed singing career. And Babe (Kayla Guffey), the youngest, is out on bail after having shot her husband in the stomach.
Their troubles, grave but somehow hilarious, are highlighted by their priggish cousin, Chick Boyle(Carol McConnell), relentlessly insulting and quite openly ashamed of her cousins; by Doc Porter (Chris Swaim), Meg’s former boyfriend who remains infatuated with her, even after his marriage to another woman and the birth of his two children; and by Barnette Lloyd (Cameron Williams), the awkward lawyer who tries to keep Babe out of jail while helpless not to fall in love with her.
Betrayed by their passions, the sisters must make sense of their recent misfortunes, forgive the past, and embrace the future.
Beth Henley’s “Crimes of the Heart” is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York.
All performances will be held at Stained Glass Playhouse, located at 4401 Indiana Avenue in Winston-Salem, NC, in the former sanctuary of Marvin United Methodist Church. Tickets are $17 for adults, $14 for seniors (60+) and teachers, and $12 for students. For more information about the show, visit www.stainedglassplayhouse.org/crimes-of-the-heart/.
