The Little Theatre of Winston-Salem Announces Auditions for Das Barbecü
The Little Theatre of Winston-Salem will hold auditions for the musical comedy Das Barbecü on Mon., April 22 & Tues., April 23 at 6:30 pm at its new office location, 419 N. Spruce Street in Winston-Salem. No appointment is necessary, and everyone is welcome to audition.
Two feuding families in Texas search for a mythical ring of gold and love in all the wrong places in this witty country music delight. With songs that run the gamut from Broadway to swing and jazz to country and western, this wild comedy features five actors playing more than 30 outrageous characters through a shotgun double wedding, a song and dance tribute to the joys of guacamole, and the sweetest two-step ever to slide across the stage.
Lane Fields will direct Das Barbecü, with music direction by Dan Dodson. There are roles available for 3 women and 2 men, ages 20-50. Actors should prepare two 32-measure excerpts for this audition: one from a song in the genre of their choice and one from a song that is in the country and western genre. Please bring sheet music in the correct key for the accompanist. Recorded accompaniment is also allowed; a capella is permitted but discouraged. Each actor cast will be playing multiple roles, so the ability to provide different voices and physicality for each character will be sought.
Actors should also bring their calendars to the audition, so they can advise of any conflicts with the rehearsal schedule.
Performance dates for Das Barbecü are June 21-23 & 27-30. All performances will be held at the Hanesbrands Theatre, 209 N. Spruce Street in Winston-Salem.
