The Little Theatre of Winston-Salem Announces Auditions for Man of La Mancha
The Little Theatre of Winston-Salem will hold auditions for Man of La Mancha on Sat., Feb. 16 at 2 pm and Sun., Feb. 17 at 6:30 pm at its new office location, 419 N. Spruce Street in Winston-Salem. No appointment is necessary, and everyone is welcome to audition.
Inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’ seventeenth-century masterpiece Don Quixote, this winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, has proven to be one of the most enduring works in musical theatre history. With a celebrated score that includes “The Impossible Dream” and “Dulcinea,” this powerful and endearing story celebrates the perseverance of a dying old man who refuses to relinquish his ideals or his passion. Written by Dale Wasserman, with music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion, Man of La Mancha “is the kind of theatre that can change the course of someone’s life. It can instill unshakeable idealism, create a moral compass, or – if nothing else – establish a lifelog love affair with musical theatre.” (Theatre Mania)
Mark Pirolo will direct Man of La Mancha, with music direction by David Lane. There are roles available for 20-25 men and women. Actors should prepare a 16-measure excerpt for the audition and bring sheet music in the correct key for the accompanist. Auditionees may also bring recorded accompaniment; a capella is permitted but discouraged. Actors should also bring their calendars to the audition, so they can advise of any conflicts with the rehearsal schedule.
Performance dates for Man of La Mancha are May 3-5 & 9-12. All performances will be held at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA), 750 Marguerite Drive in Winston-Salem.
