    img_4079-1024x683November 15, 2016 – The North Carolina Black Repertory Company (NCBRC) presents the holiday classic Black Nativity, December 2-11, 2016 written by Langston Hughes, directed and choreographed by Broadway veteran and former NCBRC Artistic Director Mabel Robinson, and musical direction by Tony Gillion.

    Black Nativity is an electrifying rendition of the Christmas story told with an infusion of gospel music, dance, and spoken word. One of America’s most popular holiday musicals, this annual production by NCBRC is a foot-stomping, hand-clapping theatrical performance, filled with brilliant costumes and Afrocentric dance.

    NCBRC Executive Director Nigel Alston notes that “this holiday classic, directed by Mabel Robinson, is a joyous tradition that continues to excite and amaze audiences, young and old.”

    Black Nativity features Nic Brown, Macayla Butler, Kahlil Caesar, Kevin Caesar, Brian Cager, Gail Couthen, Kristyn Daney, April Mae Davis, Joshua Greer, Aaliyah Hairston, Bethany Heath, Ahmad Johnson, Jerome Johnson, Monica Johnson, Wayne Jones, Lazarus LeGrant, Kenya Little, Cayla Mahome, Precious McCloud, Georjean Moore, Zakiyyah Niang, Felecia Piggott-Long , Jean Rohr, Davida Smith, D. Jerome Wells, Kiera Whitaker, Briston Whitt, Dezmon Woods, and Demetris Young. Musicians: Courtney Butler (Bass Guitarist), Frank Cauthen III (Percussionist), Oseiku Dan (African Drummer), Tika Douthit (Flute), and Hashime Selah (African Drummer). Technical Director–Arthur Reese; Costume Designer–Frenchie Laverne; Production Manager –Asabi; Stage Manager–Taylor Murrell; Assistant Stage Manager–John “JP” Poindexter.

    The North Carolina Black Repertory Company (NCBRC) was founded by Larry Leon Hamlin in 1979 as the first professional Black theatre company in North Carolina. The Company is universally recognized for its artistic and administrative achievements and its international outreach program, The National Black Theatre Festival ® (NBTF). NCBRC is committed to exposing diverse audiences to Black classics, the development and production of new works, improving artistic quality, and sustaining Black theatre internationally. NCBRC is a non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors that includes prominent professionals from the community. Its major funders include the Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County, the North Carolina Arts Council,  an agency funded by the State of North Carolina, and the City of Winston-Salem.
