The UNC Greensboro School of Theatre presents The Wolves: Fierce. Fearless. Female. running Oct. 24-27
The UNC Greensboro School of Theatre invites you to be inspired by their production of The Wolves, running October 24-27 in the newly renovated black box, Sprinkle Theatre. A finalist for the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a winner of the 2015 Relentless Award for Playwriting, The Wolves is a fast-paced, authentic story of nine high school soccer players navigating their way through life’s early struggles.
The scenes unfold with a rhythmic feel to the dialogue and an intense realistic tone. The young women search for answers to questions about their futures, love, loss, and fitting in. Their dependence on themselves and their teammates is what drives these characters to find meaning in both suffering and expression. The play communicates the mindset and attitude of a young generation when they discover that they have the power to win more than just a soccer tournament.
At the helm is an award-winning director, Ashley Sarver, who endeavors to reveal the vulnerable and exciting moments shared by an indoor, female soccer team. Sarver is in her second year as a candidate for a Master of Fine Arts in Directing at UNCG. Sarver is a graduate of Olivet Nazarene University and has won awards for directing, playwriting and teaching. Sarver is excited to bring a fresh and ambitious approach to her production of The Wolves. She states that “if this show can inspire people to support others, give to others, and love others, then we will have done our job.”
