The Willingham Performing Arts Academy Presents the Tony award-winning, Disney Musical, NEWSIES in the Willingham Theater from July 25-28
(Yadkinville, NC) – Summertime in Yadkinville means it’s time to escape the heat and “Seize the Day” with the cast and crew of NEWSIES. Set in New York City at the turn of the century, NEWSIES is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged ‘newsies,’ who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets.
A musical about overcoming youthful hardship and learning to rally for what you believe in
When Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst inflate paper distribution prices, newsboy Jack Kelly raises an army of other newsboys to strike. What unfolds has quickly become one of the most popular musicals of our time. Adapted from the 1992 Disney film and winner of two Tonys, Newsies tells the timeless story of the downtroddens’ struggle for power set against the real-life Newsboys Strike of New York in 1899. Absolutely packed with over-the-top dancing and singing and directed by Jessie Grant, Newsies is an event, and not one to miss.

About the Willingham Theater
The Willingham Theater hosted its first performance in December 2012, just two short years after the Yadkin Cultural Arts Center opened its doors to the citizens of Yadkin County. While many might dismiss the power of a small city theater, we like to prove that we can indeed bring the big city excitement and experience to our small town. Our state-of-the-art theater seats 193 patrons and showcases a variety of engaging performances ranging from music, dance, drama, comedy, and even film. In addition to ample seating, the Willingham Theater has a remarkable state-of-the-art-technology. The Willingham Theater is owned and operated by the Yadkin Arts Council.
