Touring Theatre of North Carolina presents The Memory of All That: A Cabaret of Gershwin Songs

The Touring Theatre of North Carolina will present their latest production, “Great American Songbook Series” is The Memory of All That: A Cabaret of Gershwin Songs April 12-15 at the Triad Stage/Upstage Cabaret in downtown Greensboro. Just as the company’s Duke Ellington Uptown focused on the music of jazz great Duke Ellington, this new installment celebrates the long-standing success of the Gershwin Brothers, Ira and George.  From 1924 until George’s death in 1937, the two wrote almost exclusively with and for each other, composing over two dozen scores for Broadway and Hollywood, as well as operas and symphonies.  Their romantic melodies and snappy rhythms have endured for generations.

In this encore production featuring song and dance man, Jimmy Tunstall as Ira accompanied by popular jazz man Matt Reid, the production brings friends of the brothers together in a party atmosphere as they celebrate George and his amazing talent on the anniversary of his death. In doing so, they sing and dance to many of the clever lyrics and jazzy tunes created by the brothers.
