Exciting news from A Midsummer Night’s Dream! Triad Stage Artistic Director, Preston Lane, takes the Stage
(Greensboro, NC) — Triad Stage proves that the show will go on. The professional not-for-profit theater company is in the final week of performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Tonight Triad Stage’s Founding Artistic Director Preston Lane, who adapted and directed the show, will take the stage to replace an injured actor for the remainder of the performances.
Lane will take the stage for the first time tonight to fill the role of “Egeus”, after NYC-based professional actor Rajeev Varma had to withdraw due to a leg injury sustained during the first week of the show. In Lane’s adaptation, all the actors play double and triple roles. Varma’s other role of “Nick Bottom” was taken over last week by UNCG student E.E Williams.

The company found out this morning that Varma’s injury prevents him from continuing in the role, leaving them with hours to decide how to move forward with the final performances. In addition to being a playwright and director, Lane is also a trained actor. His last appearance at Triad Stage was in 2007 as the director “Lloyd Dallas” in Noises Off. Area audiences also know him from his role as “Crumpet the Elf” in The Santaland Diaries (2004-2005), and his original one-man show A Dickens of a Christmas (2002-2003).
Lane and the company of A Midsummer Night’s Dream will rehearsal for an hour this afternoon to incorporate him into the show before the 7:30 p.m. performance.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream runs through this Sunday, November 17. Tonight’s 7:30 p.m. performance is a Pay-What-You-Can show, and audiences can name their price on any available seat beginning at 6:30 p.m.
