“Triad Today to Air 700th Program!” Sat., Aug. 25 at 7:30am on WXLV abc45
(Winston-Salem, NC) “Triad Today”, the Piedmont’s only locally produced public affairs television program, will air its 700th episode on Sat., Aug. 25 at 7:30am on WXLV abc45, and again Sun., Aug. 26 at 11:00am on WMYV MY48. (Audio from the program will be broadcast on 600am WSJS radio on Sat., Aug. 25 at 8:30am).
“Triad Today” aired its first episode on October 3rd, 2003, featuring a discussion with former Greensboro Mayor Jim Melvin about the proposed Grasshoppers baseball stadium. Guests for the 700thepisode will include: UNCG Chancellor Frank Gilliam; Inmar CEO David Mounts; Don Martin, Vice Chair of the Forsyth County Commissioners; journalist Ogi Overman; Keith Grandberry, President of Helping Hands Consultants; and, Eddie McLaurin, founder of “Woods of Terror”.
Jim Longworth, producer and host of Triad Today”, began his broadcasting career in 1970, reporting on high school football games for WSJS radio. After graduating UNCG, he did late night weather and produced documentaries for WFMY-TV in Greensboro, then moved to WSOC-TV in Charlotte where he produced a news show for kids. Longworth then hosted a live, daily talk show for WRIC-TV (then WXEX-TV) in Richmond before starting his own ad agency and video production company. Today, in addition to hosting “Triad Today”, Jim also writes a weekly column titled, “Longworth at Large”. “Triad Today” will begin its 16th season this Fall.
“I can’t say much for the host, but our show sure has gotten better with age,” said Longworth. “I’ve been fortunate to work with a great group of folks at abc45, and to be able to interview thousands of outstanding guests.”
Movers and shakers from throughout the State have appeared on “Triad Today”, finding it to be a valuable forum for promoting agencies and initiatives that help to improve quality of life.

In addition to community leaders from throughout the Piedmont, Jim’s guests have also included celebrities from the world of sports, politics, and show business, among them, golfing legend Arnold Palmer, Hall of Fame baseball player Johnny Bench, NASCAR legend Richard Petty, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, and Hollywood notables such as Ed Asner, Bryan Cranston, Shirley Jones, Robert Wagner, and Dick Van Dyke.
“Triad Today” is also known for its weekly Roundtable segment, where a rotating panel of journalists, elected officials, and business leaders voice their opinions on a wide range of local, regional, and national issues.
“Triad Today” is a recipient of the prestigious Spectrum of Democracy Award, and In 2005, Jim was recognized by Congress for his commitment to public service. He serves on the UNCG Alumni Association Board, and is a voting member of the Hollywood-based Television Academy, where he has served as a judge for the prime time EMMYs, and has moderated special events.
